Former frequent visitor to past kindly postal workers
I was traumatized by my latest visit today 4/4/24 when Yvonne assisted me. I needed to send two registered letters to the IRS and CT Dept of Revenue Services with checks. First, the green return receipts were not available, so I had to stand in line to get them. Yvonne told me that they had just arrived that day, yet it was after 4:00 PM. Secondly, she told me, indignantly, to prepare the required stickers myself even though I explained that the letters were important, and I frequently made mistakes when doing so. Nevertheless, the worker became rude and refused to provide any assistance. She finally did so very belligerently and disrespectfully. I am a senior with arthritis in my fingers and it is exceedingly difficult for me to manage small hand movements. Finally, I asked her about the latest commemoratives which I collect. She stated that she did not know anything about that and told me to pay and leave. I will leave for good and will not return to this office.
I have been waiting for two packages from a company I ordered from. The UPS tracking shows it was delivered to USPS in Orange CT. The tracking from there hasn't moved. One package was supposedly dropped off last month and the second was dropped off on Aug 22nd. Both seem to be missing in action at this USPS location. I was told UPS never dropped it off there but UPS insists they did. Not sure what goes on in the USPS location in Orange CT but it sucks!
First of all, the post office doesn't answer phone calls. It says online that you can call post office to arrange priority mail pick up but need to pay online. However, since no one pick up the calls, I had to go to post office in person today (July 17, 2020). The post office is very small and in a very closed setting. There were 8 people in that room at the same time, and I had to wait. Also, one employee kept putting his mask on then took off, then on and off. My biggest concern is the the office is in a completely closed setting (I understand since you need to keep the room cool) and it's too way small for 8 people in the room at the same time. They should limit how many people (4 people or less including employees) can be in that office at the same time and draw clear lines for social distancing. If customers need to wait, they should be asked to wait outside. I had to wait inside because there is no rule of waiting outside. Otherwise I will be waiting forever since more people are coming and they would ignore you. My advice is that don't go there if you can, especially you are a senior or have other per-existing health issues. Call private delivery companies to pick up your package from your place if possible. I will then advice the post office to consider my concerns.
Was in the post office on Monday April 27 at around 1:30. Although all the workers were wearing masks, two customers were not masked and were allowed to continue their transactions. Furthermore, 8 people were allowed into the post office at the same time. In such a small area, this does not constitute social distancing and shame on the postal workers for allowing patrons in with no masks.
I love this post office. Plenty of off the street parking makes life really easy especially if you have an arm full of packages. I have never had anything but a pleasant experience with the postal workers there too.
How much do I like it? I don't even live in Orange.
