Until recently, I have always enjoyed the friendliness and camaraderie Santaquin USPS employees have exhibited. I was in the Post Office this morning between 10:45 and 11. My receipt indicates Clerk 03 processed my recipt. When I entered the building there was another patron there who appeared to be waiting for the clerk. Someone was in the back area moving around. I called out "Hello" and the other patron told me the clerk was back there doing something. The other patron and I waited several minutes while the clerk continued with what she was doing. When she came to the front she asked the other patron for the paperwork he held in his hand and said that's all she needed. I don't know how long he had waited to turn that piece of paper over to her. Now it was my turn. I had boxed my shipment but told the clerk it wasn't taped on the top or the bottom. Her reply: "You'll have to tape it" at which time she passed over a "Priority Mail" tape holder. When I asked if she wanted me to tape over the address I had already printed in the appropriate place on the box, she took back the "Priority Mail" tape holder and pushed a clear tape dispenser to me. Then - she went back to what she had been doing in the back area. It only took me a minute to tape the box closed and I was back at the counter. Since the clerk was no longer at the counter, I called out "I'm ready." It was several minutes before the clerk returned to process my box. Since Clerk #3 appeared to be the only clerk on duty, perhaps she was overwhelmed with all she had to do this morning including taking care of the front counter. Whatever her reason for her lack of attention to the front counter, I feel walk-in customers should be taken of before other tasks. A smile on her face as she did finally process my box and receipt wouldn't have hurt. I'm looking forward to a more friendly clerk next time I'm at the Post Office.
