Dear Valued Neighbor, Student Foundation at Baylor University is preparing for the annual Bearathon Half-Marathon– known as the “Toughest Half in Texas” – and the Sic ‘Em 6K to be held on Saturday, March 25th. Baylor student leaders coordinate the entire event, learning valuable leadership and organizational skills in the process. In addition, proceeds raised through the Bearathon go towards Student Foundation scholarships, awarded annually to deserving Baylor students. Among our greatest goals for the Bearathon each year is to showcase and celebrate our local community and to demonstrate to the student body what it means to be Solid Gold Neighbors. Through this letter, we want to inform you that streets in your neighborhood may be closed (partially or fully) on the morning of Saturday, March 25th. This is a city-wide effort, and as such, we are working with traffic control teams and the Waco Police Department. Roads in your area will begin closing as early as 1:00 a.m. The race starts on Baylor’s campus at 7:00 a.m. and may last until 12:00 noon. We expect approximately 2,000 runners and spectators will be on the racecourse that morning. As such, streets may be closed or have limited vehicle and/or pedestrian access during those hours. You will be able to enter and exit your neighborhood, but we ask that, if you are driving, you proceed with caution and watch out for race participants, volunteers, and spectators. Expect police officers directing traffic and flashing red lights at busy intersections. We recognize that this may cause inconvenience to you and your neighbors, and we apologize for that. On the back of this letter, you will find a map of the half marathon course. Even if your specific street isn’t going to be closed, we want to provide you with this information in case roads on your commute will be affected. As a token of our appreciation for your patience and understanding, we invite you to join us by participating as a runner. By using the promo code “WELOVEWACO” you receive a $5.00 discount on any registration. Otherwise, we hope you will help us cheer on the runners racing through our great city. For the most up-to-date information about the race, course routes, or registration you may easily find that by visiting www.baylor.edu/bearathon. Please also follow us on Instagram @TheBearathon and Facebook for updates! Does the post office not pick up mail anymore from your post box? I left the flag up several days and they leave mail but don’t take the mail I have in there.
