I just want to balance out some negative comments to say as a long time resident that the Newtown Post Office folks have always been knowledgeable, kind, helpful and competent. New employees seem to quickly catch on with the culture of service and willingness to help each other as well as the customers.

Left a package outside in the rain even though we have a covered porch within 10 ft. We found it next morning, soaked through, contents ruined. P.O. does not answer their phone.

I've had two Amazon purchases never showing up, however they were tracked as delivered. I have a bad suspicion that either there are light fingers or some very incompetent delivery personnel. It has me worried to order anything which is delivered by USPS. My money was returned by Amazon, but I wanted the purchases. I called the Newtown office and the phone was answered and immediately hung up. The second call went unanswered. Very disconcerting at best!

Notes read, Delivery attempted, failed. We were home at the time of the supposed attempt. No attempt was seen or heard. Very disappointed.

A few days ago, our mail was mis-delivered to a neighbors house and another neighbor's mail was delivered to our house. While we understand that mistakes do happen, we are also very disturbed that neither our phone calls nor our emails have yielded either an explanation or an apology. Also, it was our neighbor and not the post office that notified us of where our mail was. We have had occasional letters, etc. wrongly delivered in the past, but never before has our entire mailing been misplaced and our complaints or questions ignored. It has been three days, and the post office still has not gotten back to us. We find this situation both disturbing and worrisome. What is going on at our post office?

So five days after posting this comment, we still have not received any response from the post office - but we did get a nice postcard from our mail delivery person hoping for a Christmas present! Maybe we should deliver it to the wrong address.
