I sent a large priority mailing box estimated arrival Saturday, August 15. The mail carrier delivered the box to the home, but did not place the box on the porch. The carrier placed the box on the wheelchair ramp that leads from the the gate in the front yard to the front porch. A witness saw the box being stolen by two people (young men) I understand the Post Office is not responsible for theft. However, placing the boxes on the porch may have stopped the theft. This box contained approximately $200. in items. I did not get insurance before this is the first time in the 40 years of using USPS have I ever experienced a lost. I am greatly disappointed because the box contained item needed by an elderly person, and birthday gifts. If the carrier had taken the time to place the items on the porch I may not be writing this letter. There was no threat (dogs, etc) to the carrier. The police were called.
