Shortened version.....was trying to teach my 15 year how to figure things out on her own and sent her up to the Cottleville Post Office with my older daughter to get an estimate ONLY of how much something would cost. Instead of providing the information requested, they immediately took the 4 envelopes from my daughter, stamped them and asked for $14.00. She again said that she was only looking for an estimate but it was again communicated that it was $12.00. We could have changed envelopes and it would have dropped the price to $0.50, which is the advice we were looking for but never got. They never offered a refund or the packages back so having no money my daughter panicked and ran to the car to borrow my other daughter's credit card because she was given no other options and felt forced to pay. In doing some research today at the O'Fallon office they indicated that it should have been a $4.84 charge only, still don't know which is right though because Cottleville stood by their $14.00 charge, however, in trying to work it out in Cottleville I only ran into what I believe was a supervisor that basically called my daughter a liar since their employee indicated that they never heard my daughter indicate that she was looking for a estimate only. Really....my daughter said it twice, had no money and felt forced to pay the $14.00 for what should have been a $4.84 at most (per other office) or $2.00 charge if we would have switched envelopes, which is clearly the option we would have chosen if the staff member would have properly answered my daughter's question. The kicker was when the supervisor did a small shrug of her shoulder when her employee relayed her recollection (in front of me) and then immediately informed me that she could do nothing and gave our side ZERO consideration. Apparently my daughter's recollection of her one experience at a post office is more fuzzy than the recollection of an employee that would have waited on many people that day and was 3 days ago. A little customer service would have gone a long way!!!!

The man at the cottleville location was a complete jerk to my 3 year old, and made him cry. I was asking for help on the best way to mail a package and no one would help me. It's difficult enough trying to mail something with 2 kids, let alone when someone makes your kid cry.
