My boyfriend and I are flying to New Mexico for the holidays to visit family and we went in to get him a passport card because Kentucky licenses are not accepted by TSA at the moment. We wanted to get the card because it is significantly cheaper and serves the purpose we need ( getting on a domestic flight) The customer service agent at the desk told us that the passport card was ONLY good for land travel and that you could not fly with it, so we ended up having to get the passport book spending $120 more than intended just to come home and read on the GOVERNMENTS website that the TSA accepts the card as a real Id for domestic flights. Needless to say the customer service reps obviously don't know their information or thought New Mexico was actual Mexico and not part of the 50 states. I'm not happy at all with the service. You should know your information especially if the only way to apply for a passport and get it done in time is through the post office itself.
